name among Hellenistic Jews (see Joshua). In Greek mythology, son of
Aeson, leader of the Argonauts, from Latin Jason, from Greek Iason,
perhaps related to iasthai "to heal" (see -iatric). The names were
somewhat merged in Christian Greek.
